Character Information
Name: Yoon (also spelled Yun, but I'm going with Yoon)
Canon: Akatsuki no Yona
Canon Point: End of Ch. 133 (Yoon stops Yotaka of the Xing Five Stars from attacking the four dragons)
Age: 15
History: Wiki Link and Ch. 133 pull point
Personality:
Yoon can best be described as an incredibly selfless person by nature, brought up in circumstances that denied him the ability to act on that nature in order to stay alive. He grew up in dire poverty and mostly alone. Yet, once he has the slightest inch in terms of staying alive, he turns on the person who's being kind to him and tries to return the favor. The problem is he's only ever acted out of necessity before, so his desire to help comes out as insulting the person into taking care of themselves. Down the line, as shown right before his pull point, Yoon has started to get better at expressing his kind heart in a more direct fashion, but mostly where it relates to people he has a special relationship with. As a shinki, he'll revert to his "tsundere beyond the call of duty" attitude, but can grow back into genuine kindness eventually.
Above all else, Yoon is aware that he is a human among "mythic beasts"; there are the four dragon warriors obviously, each with their own magical powers, and there's Hak, who is a formidable opponent and trained General, and then there's Yona, who has risen to become an ideal princess, raised in nobility but earning the title of "noble" in Yoon's eyes by her kind actions. Meanwhile, Yoon is 'just' a healer, not even able to fight in combat. Rather than bemoaning this fact, he takes pride in it. He has seen what war does to normal people, having grown up in the Fire Tribe lands of Kouka Kingdom, where the people who are not part of the military are wasting away to nothing. So Yoon is very particular about who he gives his support to. It's only with a great deal of persuasion that he's taken from Ik-Soo's side and goes to travel with Yona. The hilarious side effect to this confidence combined with his tendency to insult his way to kindness is that he has little sense of other people's personal space and will regularly grab them by the shirt or arm/hand if he knows them somewhat well. He can't generally be bullied, because he's more often the bully, even with good intentions.
His final major personality trait is being able to remember anything he reads, a form of Intuitive Aptitude. Because he starts off hating organized groups - individuals are fine - he finds more comfort in books, where he can learn things free from the politics that the Fire Kingdom force on how he has to live. It also means books are a rarity. When he gets hold of one, he devotes himself to it intensely. His pride over this ability to learn quickly - and thus be a better servant to Ik-Soo, the first person to be kind to him - manifests in frequent self-proclamations that he's a "handsome genius". While genius may be a bit of a boast, he is definitely highly intelligent, adaptable to new cultures and environments, and learns what he's taught with ease. So he has some claim over the 'genius' bit. As for the handsome part.... well in Japanese, it's bishounen, and he's mistaken for a girl even when not cross-dressing, which he did in canon for an extended period of time. He gets asked to be people's wife often due to all of his domestic skills (healing, cooking, sewing, etc.) and general usefulness among people (men) who are used to being skilled at combat and nothing else.
Abilities:
- Intuitive Aptitude AKA Eidetic Memory / Totall Recall: nonmagical variety, not exclusive to books, but that's his quickest learning style. Basically any format where he's given a set of instructions, he can reproduce the process.
- Healing: Nonmagical variety, classic herb & traveling physician style. He is not a formally trained Doctor, however.
- Explosives: Nonmagical variety. He can make mundane fireworks and the more deadly variety with prepared ingredients, but his methods take extensive prep time since we're talking old fashioned gunpowder style.
- Cooking: Yoon's other big skill aside from healing, he can make incredibly tasty dishes from very little due to an intense awareness of herbs & spices. He can also adapt many dishes to campfire style prep, so imagine what he can do with a kitchen!
Strengths: Confidence, Lifelong Learner, Adaptable, Empathy esp. for the poor / injured, and Internal compass
Weaknesses: Inexperienced (Combat), Not Forthcoming with feelings, Distrusts military & monarchy, Claustrophobic, and lack of empathy for / high moral expectations of the generally priviledged
God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: Because playing out his developmental arc from canon will be very fun, in which he has to learn to trust people all over again, especially when I'm not choosing a God for him, so their CR could vastly change that arc. He could adore the person like he adores Yona, or he could hate them as much as he hates the Fire Tribe and King Il who allowed the poverty of his youth to happen.
Cause Of Death: In canon, Yoon steps in front of a badly injured Jae-Ha and Kija to speak with Yotaka of Xing's Five Stars - incredibly strong warriors - to call his honor into question:
Vessel: His satchel
Name Location: Left inner wrist
Power: Mary Poppins Purse, by which I mean that Yoon can produce nonmagical items as necessary provided they meet a few criteria:
1) it's small enough in at least 1 dimension to get pulled out of the bag, example: an umbrella is narrow enough despite being very long
2) it's not money
3) it's not prepared food, but supplies (like herbs/spices) are okay
4) it must be needed within the next hour, otherwise it will disappear
5) it's value is under $100 (approx)
6) it does not have to exist in his world, but the person reaching into the bag does have to know what they want if he doesn't know what it is

Yoon: "Jae-Ha and Kija are already beaten up! Don't hit them anymore!!"After this point in canon, Yoon's death is at Yotaka's hand as he uses his cudgel (?) and slams it into the side of Yoon's head.
Zeno: "Boy!"
Yotaka: "A friend of theirs...?"
Yoon: "That's right."
Yotaka: "Then die."
"Yoon: "Why?! We haven't done anything to deserve being killed! Are Xing Kingdom's warriors the kind to keep swinging their weapons at people who don't fight back until they die?! Are you all proud to do that?!"
Jae-Ha: "Yoon, don't. Just move..."
Yoon: "No way, you idiot. It's my job to make sure you guys don't get hurt. I'm not moving, no matter what! I am a human being from Kouka Kingdom, and I hate both violence and war. So before you kill me, at least get that through your head!"
